Skin Layers Anatomy

It contains connective tissue blood capillaries oil and sweat glands nerve endings and hair follicles. This lower layer of the skin contains collagen and elastic fibers that give strength to the skin.

Anatomy Of The Skin

Skin has three layers.

Skin layers anatomy. The layer of skin beneath the dermis is sometimes called the subcutaneous fat subcutis or hypodermis layer. Beneath the dermis lies the hypodermis which is composed mainly of loose connective and fatty tissues. The outer layer is called the epidermis.

Thick skin is found only on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. The dermis beneath the epidermis contains tough connective tissue hair. Skin that has four layers of cells is referred to as thin skin from deep to superficial these layers are the stratum basale stratum spinosum stratum granulosum and stratum corneum.

It holds most of the bodys fat so it varies in thickness from one person to another. A basal cell is a cuboidal shaped stem cell that is a precursor of the keratinocytes of the epidermis. Basically the skin is comprised of two layers that cover a third fatty layer.

This layer is also where the vasculature and nerves live. This layer provides insulation for your body keeping you warm. The dermis is the middle layer of the three layers of skin.

Accessory structures hair glands and nails are found associated with the skin. The deeper layer of skin is well vascularized has numerous blood vessels and is superficial to the hypodermics. These three layers differ in function thickness and strength.

The epidermis made of closely packed epithelial cells and the dermis made of dense irregular connective tissue that houses blood vessels hair follicles sweat glands and other structures. Stratum basale stratum spinosum stratum granulosum stratum lucidum and stratum corneum. Together the epidermis and dermis form the cutaneous layer.

The subcutaneous layer area below the skin lies underneath the cutaneous layer and is sometimes called the hypodermis or superficial fascia. Most of the skin can be classified as thin skin. Its located between the epidermis and the subcutaneous tissue.

The skin is composed of two main layers. The most superficial layer of the skin is the epidermis which is attached to the deeper dermis. It is a tough protective layer that contains the melanin producing melanocytes.

The epidermis of thick skin has five layers. The stratum basale is a single layer of cells primarily made of basal cells. The epidermis the outermost layer of skin provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone.
