Female Breast Muscle Anatomy
The breast is the tissue overlying the chest pectoral muscles. The anatomy of the breast is depicted.
The base or bed of the breast is formed by the fascia that covers the pectoralis major and minor muscles about tow thirds and the fascia of the serratus anterior muscle about one third.
Female breast muscle anatomy. The nipple anatomy is adjusted to support the function of the breast. The structure of the female breast is complex including fat glandular and connective tissue as well as lobes lobules ducts lymph nodes blood vessels and ligaments. Female breasts are rarely symmetrical.
These lobules connect to the nipple via ducts so that milk can pass through. There are numerous sebaceous glands within the areolae these enlarge during pregnancy secreting an oily substance that acts as a protective lubricant for the nipple. They are surrounded by a pigmented circular region of skin called the areola which becomes even more pigmented and prominent during puberty.
Structures of the female breast seen on a sagittal section and anterolateral view. The neatly arranged petals in the illustration are lobules glands that produce milk. At the centre of the breast is the nipple composed mostly of smooth muscle fibres.
The breast runs from the second rib at the top superiorly to the sixth rib at the bottom inferiorly although larger breasts and the lactating breast may extend further down. The major muscle in the chest is the pectoralis major. Surrounding the nipple is a pigmented area of skin termed the areolae.
Womens breasts are made of specialized tissue that produces milk glandular tissue as well as fatty tissue. This large fan shaped muscle stretches from the armpit up to the collarbone and down across the lower chest region on both sides of the chest. When fully developed the female adult breast is composed of 1520 lobes of branching glands.
In women the breasts overlie the pectoralis major muscles and usually extend from the level of the second rib to the level of the sixth rib in the front of the human rib cage. The amount of fat. A sagittal cut away view shows the structures that comprise the breast including the pectoralis major muscle fat lobes and ducts.
For one breasts are not made of muscle but tissue glands and ducts. In most cases a breast is usually slightly larger or smaller higher or lower or of different shape to the other side. Thus the breasts cover much of the chest area and the chest walls.
