Knee muscle anatomy. The knee is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body. However the knee does not only been back and forth. Knee function is determined in large part by the anatomy of the joint.

The femur patella and tibia are all bones within the knee. It extends the thigh flexes the knee and helps rotate the tibia. The primary function of the knee is a hinged of the lower extremity.

The knee joins the thigh bone femur to the shin bone tibia. Flexors include the biceps femoris the plantaris the semitendinosus and the semimembranosus. The muscles around the knee help to keep the knee stable well aligned and moving.

Meanwhile the muscles found within the knee include a variety of flexors and extensors. There are two main muscle groups around the knee. It begins in the thigh area and extends to the head of the fibula in the knee.

The quadriceps and the hamstrings. The quadriceps are a collection of 4 muscles on the front of the thigh and are responsible for straightening the knee by bringing a bent knee to a straightened position. Tendons connect the knee bones to the leg muscles that move the knee joint.

The muscles of the knee include the quadriceps hamstrings and the muscles of the calf. These muscles work in groups to flex extend and stabilize the knee joint. This long muscle extends from the pelvis to the tibia.

The smaller bone that runs alongside the tibia fibula and the kneecap patella are the other bones that make the knee joint.
